BLK MUZAK

[Glue Moon Records | 2017]

“More recently the group released BLK Muzak (Glue Moon), which reaches a new apotheosis in its vocal interplay, summoning the spirit of vintage Sly & the Family Stone and Curtis Mayfield while still bearing traces of Cleveland’s rich punk legacy. The result is that in Mourning [A] BLKstar’s best material, such as the harrowingly lean “Flicker,” there’s something both comforting and unsettling.”

Chicago Reader, Peter Margasak

THE GARNER POEMS

[Electric Cowbell Records | 2018]

“Wrought with a deep, spiritual vibrancy, The Garner Poems traverses the borders of soul, funk, and hip-hop, but does so with solemnity… The Garner Poems shines because it honors the legacy of Black consciousness, continuing the expressions of both joy and pain that the group’s predecessors share.”

-Bandcamp, Album Of The Week, Jesse Bernard

RECKONING

[Don Giovanni Records | 2019]

“This follow-up feels more planned and finessed, having had more time to stew in its own dread and despair. It is, impossibly, even better than Garner and one of the finest albums of 2019 thus far, from a band whose importance is fast becoming evident. This stands with Clear Soul Forces’ Still and Durand Jones’s American Love Call as one of 2019’s sweetest and most soaring transmissions from Black America, but I’d say Reckoning far eclipses both of those.”

—The Wire, Neil Kulkarni

The Cycle

[Don Giovanni Records | 2020]

"The Cycle is a fully realised, liberating dive into self-actualization; one that, given the times we’re living through, couldn’t be more timely."

- The Wire, Stephanie Phillips

“The Cycle adds up to an album that demands multiple deep listens, rewarding the listener with new details and nuances.”

- Afropunk, Nathan Leigh
